About Us
We are the University of Exeter's largest academic society, with over 900 members last year. Open to everyone, we aim to foster strong relationships between students interested in business and finance through both professional and social events. Our members receive the best insight into future opportunities, the application process and the industries they're interested in, whilst our partners gain value from our creative and commercially aware members and alumni.
Our Values
Exeter’s BFS continually remain ambitious in its activities and helps develop its members to be ambitious individuals. We drive students to challenge themselves, grow their skillsets and move out of their comfort zone so they can grow both their personal and professional selves. This remains in balance with their academia, however, we understand that to get the best university experiences, students must be ambitious outside their studies.
Ambition
The BFS host a varied portfolio to create opportunities at all levels for its members. This covers careers and employability events, with the aim to make its member more employable through skill development, understanding of applications to opportunities, and the chance to network with industry professionals. BFS understands that with work comes to play – our prestigious socials and balls provide an opportunity for members to celebrate their successes and reflect on each semester.
Opportunity
Here at the BFS, we place emphasis on relationships, friendship, and communication. Through our portfolio, the BFS aid members in expanding their network, making new friends, and strengthening established relationships. This comes alongside welfare, where any member can use the BFS for advice and help. Members learn the importance of achieving with modesty and losing dignity. We always inject positivity into members' lives and beyond their student life, sustain our community through our alumni group.
Community
What we offer
Insight talks and events - we provide sponsor and partner insight events and talks to deliver application advice, commercial awareness, roles by industry and workshops for skill development
Exe Consulting - we run a pro-bono consulting service for local businesses, with over 80 students partaking last year across multiple projects and workstreams
Intramural Sports - we run multiple intramural football, netball and hockey teams for our members which compete in weekly Sunday league fixtures
Society Partnerships and Charity Events - we have excellent relationships with other academic societies and BFS are proud to be the incubator of ExSIF, the student Investment Fund, who have grown into their own society
BFS Socials and Balls – we host the most enjoyable socials across any academic society at Exeter, alongside the most prestigious black-tie balls every Winter, Spring and Summer
